I recently wanted to use the media deletion functionality within Plex to remove mp3s. I realized that when I delete a media in Plex-web or Plexamp it only removes the files but leaves the folders. Is there any way to get rif of the folders in the same step as well?
From what I understand that’s „by design“ as Plex doesn’t want to delete any local extras or local media assets stored alongside your media. The same goes for files in your file system which aren’t cataloged by Plex in the first place.
I suppose Plex could add some additional logic / checks and delete empty folders that contain no other files (though many OS will create default files per folder to store certain details on how those are represented in the OS)… then again, that’ll only shift the line and might cause more confusion as Plex will delete some folders nut not others. Therefore I’m personally ok with Plex not deleting folders at the moment.
On my system, Plex Web and other clients do delete the folder as long as the media being deleted is the only item in that folder. If, as you said, there is anything else (most common in my case is a SRT file), the media file is deleted but the folder and additional content remain. FWIW, this is for videos. I haven’t tried deleting audio content.
