If a subtitle track exists with the forced flag set for the same language as the user's preferred language, it should be shown, even if normal subtitles are set to be disabled by default. This is used for movies with pieces of foreign language dialogue (e.g. Star Wars, The Godfather, Lord of the Rings) as well as to translate onscreen text in anime and similar.
This should apply to Plex Home Theater as well as Plex/Web and mobile/other clients.
It'd also be helpful to be able to set control over default subtitle tracks per-series, as not every file with a songs/signs track has its forced flag set correctly.
I can confirm forced subtitles are working for me with Plex HT. These are blu-rays ripped with makemkv. Have you tested the same files in XBMC 12.0 RC3? If they're working in XBMC 12.0 but not Plex HT, definitely make sure you bring that to Tobias's attention over in the Plex HT subforum.
Just tried some files I muxed myself with mkvmerge; definitely not showing forced subs by default in Plex/HT or Plex/Web. I can pick the subs from the list (though this is a bit annoying, since they all just say “English”, rather than the given track names [another sub-related problem that needs solving]), but they’re not enabled by default. VLC uses the forced track by default, as expected. Same with plenty of other MKVs I’ve tested.
Using default flags for Audio too would be nice so I don’t have to reorder the language tracks if it is a show I know I’m only going to watch in the original language.
