Hi,
is there a general demand which sizes media/navigation pictures should have to fit best on mobile devices, browsers etc.?
A given requirement would be great so that the channels looks great on any device...

Somewhere it states the standard size you should make your Icon and Art. I know your main Icon should be 512x512 and your main art, it think, should be 1280x720.
Elsewhere in your channel, I think each client controls the format and size of the icons, so it will resize the images to fit the client and should not matter what size icons you use though all of the clients do make them square, so the squarer choice is always better. When I have a choice, I tend to pull icons 300 to 400 pixels wide and square, so they will not look grainy on large screen TVs or appear misshaped.
