“Did you watch X?”

When using watchlist on an Apple TV to watch an episode on an app outside of Plex, when you come back to plex later, it should remember the episode that took you away from Plex and say “Did you watch this episode?” With yes/no buttons (yes focused so all you have to do is click)

FYI, the JustWatch app has this functionality and if works pretty well.

Bonus: could use the known length of the show/movie/etc and if the time they were away from Plex is close to the same duration, show a notification saying “marking watched in 5… 4… 3… etc” with a cancel button that has focus

could possibly do something similar to denoted partially watched if back sooner than is possible to watch the whole thing

How is Plex supposed to know that you’ve watched an (or many) episode(s) outside of Plex?

  1. User opens Plex on AppleTV
  2. User navigates to a specific episode on their watchlist and clicks on it with the intent to watch
  3. Plex redirects the user to the service’s app (Netflix, HBO, Disney+, etc)
  4. The user watches the episode on that service
  5. Once the episode is over the User presses the home button until they are returned to Plex
  6. (Everything above here is what already happens, here is the new functionality:) Plex presents a confirmation message asking the user if the watches the episode, eg. “Did you watch S02 E02 of Peacemaker?”
  7. The user click “yes”
  8. Plex marks the episode watched

Again, if you want an example of this exact functionality, download the JustWatch app and try their watchlist functionality

OK, so via the watchlist. Got it, thanks.
