DLNA server not playing 24bit/96khz audio

The plex app can play back 24bit/96khz audio fine without transcoding. My receiver, Yamaha RX-V481, can play back the same files directly off a thumbdrive. But when using Plex as a DLNA server the files come back as static or listed as “unable to play”.

The error in the logs are:
Direct Playing due to no transcode profile
no direct play music profile exists for http/mp4/aac
audio.bitrate limitation applies: 307 > 288

Any ideas?

Where does it specify that? I can’t find any mention of resolution on the dlna.org site or doing more in-depth searches.

Twonky plays the files back over DLNA but not plex.

I guess I’m missing something. That doc doesn’t mention anything about bit rate or resolution. From what I read it says the device doesn’t support various types of fast forward and backward scanning.

When I’ve contact Yamaha support with the same information they’ve made no mention of not supporting specific bit rate or resolution of DLNA.

I know the receiver can handle the format and that Twonky will handle playback over DLNA through that receiver. The problem seems to be that Plex does not. Is there anything I can do to make Plex handle these files over DLNA?

Thanks for all of the detail. Too confusing but this was helpful.
