Do I have this correct about plex dvr recording?

I just got Plex pass and want to record ota with my hdhomerun dual tuner.
Does my computer have to be on to records shows that I want to store on the Plex sever cloud?
I assume the answer is yes because the streams from the tuner must be encoded first, right?

I’m not sure if Plex DVR works with the Plex Cloud… Plex DVR will search its home network for available tuners.
If you talk about a regular Plex Media Server installed in your own home network, Plex DVR will find the tuner in your home network – however for it to record and store a program, your Plex Media Server will need to be running.

Plex Cloud does not have a DVR function.

Consider how that might work:

  1. Your local tuner
  2. Send the raw video stream back out the internet to your Plex Cloud server
  3. Write the DVR output file to your cloud-based storage provider.

Yes, a great idea but it’s not possible … yet. Someday? Yeah, I can see that happening but not yet.

For now and the foreseeable future, Plex Cloud can only from the media linked to it. It can’t write to it
