I would love this feature as well. I often find that there are episodes of podcasts I’ve missed because they aren’t hosting all previous episodes. If they were downloaded I wouldn’t have to worry about missing episodes.

I wonder if Plex developers need any developers hands to implement this feature. Otherwise I cannot understand why this feature requests still open for 2 years

I would like a response from Plex if this is something that would be allowed or not.

I know theres a lot they keep adding to Plex, but it seems this would be an easy feature to add. But perhaps, as stated above, it crosses into a grey area. If that’s so we who have voted would like to know. Instead I’m keeping my hopes up.

Has there been any traction on this? I’m constantly behind on my podcasts because, well, kids, and I would love to be able to preserve them on my WD NAS and then pickup the show where I left off whenever I have 2 minutes. The podcast apps I use seem to delete the old ones before I can finish them. I figured out how to download from the podcast website but Plex won’t let me play them. Come on, man!

That’s what I was thinking! I can play locally stored movies, music, TV shows…but not podcasts!?

Still would love to see this so much. The ability to download podcasts local for archiving and then access them through my Plex would be incredible and nothing else currently allows for this as far as I know. Currently have a huge local library of podcasts that I keep up to date via gpodder but it’s pretty clunky. So many podcasts disappear from feeds and can’t be found anymore which is why people like me keep local copies.

At the bare minimum I guess all we need need is an agent to fetch the metadata as well as some talent out there to develop an app for podcasts that is equivalent to what Prologue is to audiobooks. And we’ll keep updating the local library via external apps until such feature is included in Plex.
