Sorry if my answer is duplcated with other post, but I’m a newbie with NAS and regarding other post I have some doubt, and some difficulty to really understand.
My question will be (I hope) easy for you and would request just a yes-or-no answer, and so don’t request to re-explain what we can find in other post
I bought several years a go a DS418J and as PMS is not able to run on it (unsupported CPU).
And so today PMS is installed on computer and NAS is used for storage only).
So I’m going to buy a new one and wouldn’t do a mistake again, I would like my PMS run on my NAS.
First i would like to go with a DS920+, but regarding issues with this NAS, i consider the DS918+ too.
About DS920+ issue I saw in this forum I afraid to not be skilled enough to really understand and able to apply the workaround.
So if DS918+ is enough for my need, I probably not take the risk of buying a DS1920+…
My needs are :
My input files are in 1080p (in the futur maybe some 4K input files…)
I need to be able to display two different movie in the same time (I have 2 smart TV : Sony/TCL)
I haven’t PLEX premiums, but I could buy a PASS if HW acceleration is needing to reach my needs.
So my questions are:
I understood that the workaround for DS920+ is NOT needing if we don’t use the HW Acceleration, am I right ?
Does the DS920+ and/or DS918+ will support my need without premiums pass ? (i.e. display 2 movies in same time, input file are 1080p and display in 4K smart TV).

I already tried to install Plex on my DS418J a long time ago, but unsuccessfully (I don’t remember if it was a java version issue, or a performance issue…can’t remember)… But as you told me that this NAS should be enough to meet my requirements, I will try again before investing in a more powerful NAS

It remains one issue, but i think I find a workaround.
On my smart TV, when I use my main user account (the admin one) then in the end of the movie/episode watch, the Plex Server package stops running on my NAS !! (and so I have to login to my NAS to restart it…so annoying )
Hopefully, if I use a managed user account, then it seems work perfectly (to be confirmed with more intensive usage)… so my workaround is to never use this admin account from my Smart Tv.
First I guess it could be my NAS configuration on Folder access rights; But this admin account work well on my computer (Plex has read access to shared video folder…and i tried with read/write access too).
If any idea about this issue ?
PS: just for information as a feedback of this DS418J+ performance with Plex:
When watching 2 movies at 1080p, my DS418+ has a CPU load of 30-35% and RAM load at 40%, so performance are ok;
The CPU load has some 100% peaks on library loading, or starting a new movies but, and so take some seconds… but it is acceptable
It doesn’t work… and I tried with 192.168.1.0 too
My smart TV works perfectly to a PMS located on my computer… so I guess the issue comes from the NAS.
But I will open a new topic for this issue.

When I said I tested with 192.168.1.0 it was because it was my Plex sever IP address. But one thing I didn’t do was to sign out and sign back in… i didn’t though it could have any impact on server side… but with just this sign out/sign in, it seems working now.
