When you add DVD playback support for Plex Media Server?
ISO and Other Image formats are not supported by Plex and any support that is left in will eventually be removed.
I don't talk about ISO, i have unpacked DVD's, and they don't playing.

Like a Video_TS -- same story, not supported.
What about a retail DVD in a drive using PHT?

Nope
Why?
DVDs are not designed or made to be streamed & require more effort and time to make and keep working in the Plex Ecosystem.
Ultamately, it was a design decision made by the Developers.
I rip DVDs using a 'certain tool... cough cough' so the end result is an untouched VOB file. Great if I'm keeping the disc but if I get one from a friend or something I just need to watch, I just want to be able to put it in and watch, not wait 20 minutes to rip, scrape, update plex catalog, etc.
No, I don't have a DVD player, thats what Plex was for...

something like vlc handles that situation very well.

Use one that makes an mp4 or mkv file instead. Streaming straight from a disc isn't really very realistic and if you are on a device that is capable of running Plex Home Theater then there is an absurd amount of programs that will play a DVD for you anyway.
