DVR Live TV

I am thinking of getting Plex Pass. Mainly because I am interested in the DVR functionality.

However, I have a question or two.

1.) Am I only limited to DVR what Plex has available in the LIVE TV section? Or am I somehow able to import other channels?

2.) When DVRing a show, does it also record the commercials? That would be a real drag if it did. I think one of the main focal points of having a Plex server is the ability to watch your media WITHOUT commercials or pauses somewhere in between the show.

Thanks everyone.

The Live TV/DVR feature is for over the air channels that you can receive with tuners like WinTV QuadHD or HDHomeRun. The DVR feature does not work with Plex’s Live TV Channels.

It’s unfortunate but I think it’s quite common for people to buy a Plex Pass for the DVR feature only to find out that it’s not for Plex Live TV.

As MovieWiz mentioned, the DVR feature is only for over-the-air tv.

As far as commercials go, when you set up a “pass” to record a tv show or movie, there is a “Detect Commercials” option under “Advanced”. You can select Detect, Detect and Delete, or Detect and Mark for Skipping.

That is absolutely horrible. I did NOT know that. This was a major selling point for me. Now, I am considering not even bothering with it.

Wow.
