DVR Playback choppy and missing

Having some issues with DVR playback from recorded content. I have a HDHomeRun CONNECT QUATRO which I can watch live TV through plex fine.

When I record a show and go to play it back, its choppy and misses bits. e.g. it will play 10 seconds, then skip forward 4, then play 8 and skip forward 5.

Thing is, I can play the file it recorded in VLC, and it works fine.

Any ideas?
