Yeah, donât do that.
But it does become frustrating when you reply to something like that straight away, but havenât given an update about the main issue.
If of course there is no update, then it would appear itâs not even a priority when one of the main features has been broken for so long.
Keeping your paying customers up to date even with a monthly tracker would go some way to appeasing us all.
I havenât provided an update because I havenât got any further news on it. Itâs still something weâre actively investigating, but havenât been able to track down the root cause of yet. Iâve been following up internally, and also closely following things on the forum too.
And thatâs whatâs so disappointing. No update, not even a small amount of progress? Not even narrowed down to one area of the code which is causing the issue. Just that feeling of emptiness that so many months down the line we havenât made any progress and no more confidence in using the product, or recommending to others for fear of them adapting something which is half baked.
Following up internally is great - but when more and more users are having the issue there has to be some outward communication, other than just a âweâre working on thisâ and âno updateâ again and again.
Residing to the fact that in a few months this could very well be the situation we find ourselves in isnât something I would call a great experience.
They know the last version where it was working and they know what changes were made in the next version where it got broken. So just by putting in some basic fault finding leg work of adding in the changes into the working version one by one and testing they should have some idea where the root cause lies.
It amazes me how a relatively small company doesnât want to engage with itâs customers, and hides behind we donât give updates mantra, like giving more details is somehow going to give advantage to competitors or itâs better just to say nothing in case further down the line it turns out not to be possible.
Yes, that thread started in July 2018, but whatever bugs or code issues caused it back then were fixed as it was working for quite a while for me.
So, for me, it was working before this thread was started and now it not, so a new bug was introduced.
I actually posted on this thread back in August after doing some initial testing and it was working for me then. However, now that NFL season is active, it is not working. Itâs a conspiricy.
Hopefully, this time, it wonât take almost 2 years to fix it.
Gave up on Plex for this. It used to work well a long time ago. Fixed/Broken/Broken more/Broken lessâŠjust couldnt rely on it. Im using NextPVR backend with Kodi NextPVR add on frontend. Flawless. Zero problems. Timeshift playback works so nice. Its free too. Id be happy to come back to Plex but when I come back here to se how things are going, still people posting about this feature not working. NFL season is here and I need something that works
Considering Live TV & DVR is one of the MAIN Plex pass features and a big part of their marketing strategy to sell Plex passes this basic functionality should work. Although it does work on Roku, having a major brand have such poor performance for over a year shows differently for a lot of customers.
Plex has proved time and time again they have little resource to fix things especially when they introduce new bugs every time they fix something else. Yâall need to write your unit tests and start mocking your functionality and quit making paying customers your QC team.
Or perhaps itâs just the specific developers working on Android? The Roku developers seem to be killing it.
Some of the members here should seriously send this company a bill for their time and effort.
So timeshifting playback with Plex is solid on Roku device? Does it matter what platform the server is running? Im pretty well set now with the NextPVR setup but good to know what my options are if I need to change things around. I could get a Roku stick and go that way.
I donât understand what you exactly mean by time shifting.
If you want to select an airing that has recording already in progress on the Roku it will ask you to play live or start from beginning and it works either way. This is what this topic is about. Unfortunately this is broken on Android. Android on the other hand will always play live but have the ability to rewind once playing.
Yes. Timeshifting is a standard term for what Plex calls âwatch from startâ and has been a problem with Plex Android TV client.
My workaround still works, but it is an older version. I am using 8.7.2.20952.
DaveBinM, what can be done to escalate this issue?
Yes, please resolve this. Itâs basic pvr functionality.
Not saying anything new here, just adding to the numbers.
I want to ditch the humax and go full plex but canât if it doesnât work properly.
You do wonder exactly how actively it is being investigated. How many person hours are being spent on this issue a week. Certainly not enough compared to time being spent updating look and feel and adding new features. I think we will all still be here in 2022 asking the same questions.
@DaveBinM How do we escalate this issue properly? The current method isnât getting the attention it needs.
Only been using Plex for 8 months and like it overall but am really frustrated with not being able to watch a live show from the beginning without having to do a hard press rewind for a while. My wife who has 0 tech skills still canât figure out how to do it. It fails on both Fire and Android TVs.
Iâm aware this issue is approaching what, 4 years. How can a company operate with a broken feature for this long? Just created a Channels account and am going to give Emby a shot. This isnât the only problem Iâm having with Plex but in keeping with the thread title, Iâll leave it at that. Thanks.
I mean, at this point the higher ups are fully aware of the issues that have plagued plexâs live tv offering for years, and theyâve made it painfully obvious that they couldnât care less.
If youâre looking for a solution, Channels DVR or Emby would be your best bets. They both work as advertised, which is a lot more than I could say for Plex. Channels is pretty much the gold standard, while Emby is a close second. And plex is the kid sitting in the corner devouring paste like itâs going out of style.
While that obviously wonât work, Iâd highly recommend filing a chargeback with your credit card company since the software clearly does not work as advertised.
Not saying you shouldnât send a bill as well, but since nothing else seems to be getting their attention, maybe theyâll notice when they start having to pay chargeback fees too.
