EPG grid woes.....can you recommend alternative DVR/EPG software?

I finally bit the bullet and jumped on the DVR bandwagon. I did my research with regards to which card to get and ordered a Hauppauge WinTV-QuadHD, upgraded my server cpu & added more memory. Had a new aerial cable run in ready, also.
The install and configuration was very simple, and within 20 minutes I was good to go.

And then I realized the horrid truth. The Plex DVR is not created to be a replacement of your tv service. It uses the controversial “Netflix” style menu - not grid style. This might be an easier way to search and record stuff, and it is nicely organised for playback.
But no thought has been given to evening browsing - where you wish to see what is on at 20:00…
How did I not know this before hand?
I had read so much about setting this up but not performed any research on the actual EPG display.
There seems to be plenty of poppy ■■■■ spouted about the patent troll holding an expired patent for grid style menu. Sounds a crock to me. Either way, it seems unlikely that Plex will be supporting this fundamental feature which makes the DVR feature rather half baked.

I had planned to cut & the cord and have everything run via one server - Plex.
However this is not going to work. Also, as this will never pass muster with the wife, I will have to look for an alternative. (So thankful that I have not cancelled my BT Vision subscription yet!)

I will keep Plex for my movies & downloads, but am looking for DVR software with a good EPG for TV.
This can either run in conjunction with Plex (yes…I would love to incorporate it into Plex, but as the great prophet Jagger said, you can’t always get what you want!)
Or be completely standalone. I also don’t mind paying for software if its good.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks

Yes, I found the lack of a TV grid-style guide disappointing too. Have a look at Emby. It might suit you better as they have the traditional TV guide that you are looking for. They are missing things like Smart Playlists though.

Thanks - I have taken a glance at Emby. My only concern is I would have to pay a similar amount that I pay to Plex, just to use the Live TV segment. Unless I move completely to Emby. Oh decisions!!
I was rather hoping for a lightweight Live TV program that I can switch between the two - its not ideal, but would keep the family happy!

Really depends on what you are viewing your media on. I use boxes running LibreElec so Kodi is my media player and Plex just manages my content via https://forums.plex.tv/discussion/210023/plexkodiconnect-let-kodi-talk-to-your-plex/p1 then i have a MediaPortal backend so my LiveTV can look how i want really. Guide looks like this right now

I currently have a server running Windows with 16 Tb RAID
Plex is running as a server for movies & TV.
Clients are Amazon Firestick, iOS, OpenPHT …
Perhaps I need to take a look at Kodi as a client…I think it was XBMC Eden when I last used that

So two days after I posted this, Plex announced that they will be bringing an EPG grid to the party!
That’s great news - lets hope its in time for crimbo!!
