I have a few TV shows in 4K. My hardware can not transcode 4K in real-time so I used the Optimize feature to bring them down to 1080p until I can beef up the hardware. I setup a dedicated folder so they are not store with the original files but Plex is still naming them according to recommended convention. Fast forward and I had to rescan my entire library. Plex is detecting random other shows it previously transcoded (and named) as the wrong show. There is no Split option (like for movies) so I have no idea what to do here. It says there is four copies of this one episode when there should only be two (the original version and the Optmize’ed 1080p version).
please share 1 specific example w/ file names / folder structures.
you can see the files linked to an episode when clicking Edit > Info.
I got annoyed and started experimenting without checking here first.
I took a snapshot of the Optimize’ed volume and deleted everything in it. Seems Plex was not detecting the files as something it created (were not in Settings > Server > Optimized Versions). I assume there is some metadata that is generated to keep track of those things that I did not move over from the old install. Any way, a re-scan of the library is not removing the files from being tracked, only marking them as Unavailable. I am happy to just regenerate all those Optimize’ed versions but I can not do that until it agrees that I deleted the old ones.
Settings > Server > Optimized Versions
You should be able to make deletions of the non-existing entries in this area. I moved media once, and had the same issue.

Thanks for the input.
There is nothing there besides “Choose "Optimize..." on items in your library and optimized versions will appear here.”. When I navigate to the folder where those Optimized files should be stored the folder is empty. The files are listed as Unavailable within the UI. I do daily scans of the libraries (plus when I do a manual one) with the Empty trash automatically after every scan checked and I empty the trash manually. Nothing is getting rid of these erroneous entries.
