External storage for my plex server

Hey everyone!

I’m running my PLEX server on an Intel NUC (NUC11PABi7), and I have an external 5 TB storage connected via USB.

I’ve realized that the storage space is running out, and I’m looking for options on how to extend it (and I want to avoid connecting another external USB HDD).

Some things I’m thinking about:

*I don’t 'want to spend a ton of money
*The data I store is not sensitive and does not need to be backed up
*Preferably, I’d like to avoid using one large drive to minimize data loss in case of a failure

Is a RAID Box the optimal solution, and then move my external HDD + additional HDD into it?
Should I connect the external storage via Thunderbolt 3 port instead of USB (3.2 gen2)?

Any suggestions are appreciated. Thanks!

Anyone with some hands on experience?

All my Plex media are stored in a 4-bay DAS connected via USB 3 port. I haven’t had any issues with this setup after almost 9 years of running Plex is this manner.

I use DrivePool to pool the drives in Windows. To upgrade to larger drives, I just remove the drive from the pool in DrivePool, once that is done, I remove the drive from the DAS and replace it with the new drive, and then add the new drive to the pool. No issues with doing this.
