I saw this as an issue when the release just came out but not mentioned since unless I missed it. There is no smooth fast forward or rewind. The only skip option also has a few second delay each time (timeline moves by x seconds but then have to wait 2-3 seconds for playback to resume). This makes it very hard to use on recordings as skipping commercials is continuous skip wait skip wait skip wait…
I think they’re calling this a ‘feature’ and it’s horrible, just like the app design.
That’s laughable. If there was no seek delay it wouldn’t be as bad, but with the delay it makes skipping almost unuseable. And this is on recordings that direct play, so it’s not even an issue from transcoding. Please bring normal FF/RW back!

Plex has mentioned they’re adding FF/RW back in, but no idea when. Until then I’ve turned off direct play so I can at least skip forward/back without a 10 second delay.

Well that’s welcomed news! So you’re saying it’s actually better WITH transcoding? If so I might give that a try for the time being.

Yes, for me at least it’s definitely better. Each skip takes 10 seconds with direct play, but when I turn it off I only notice a slight, maybe half second delay.
I still have to wait for the skip to process after pressing skip, because if I don’t it’ll freeze. In the old app I could just press skip 4 times quickly and it would eventually (within a few seconds) catch up. If I do that now the app freezes and I have to go back and restart the video from the last saved progress point.
Another added benefit to turning off direct play is that it eliminates banding that I get on some of the higher quality mkv’s (San Andreas and Trolls as examples). Don’t even know if it’s the higher quality/bit rate or something else, but turning off direct play fixes it.
