Favourite Actor Feature with Notification System

Hello dear Plex community,

As a long-time and enthusiastic user of Plex, I appreciate the ability to easily manage my extensive media library. However, there is one feature that caught my eye that I believe could enhance our collective Plex experience.

I’d like to suggest a feature that allows us to mark specific actors as favourites. It would be fantastic to receive automatic notifications when new movies or series featuring these actors are released. It would facilitate a closer connection to the actors we follow and help us keep up-to-date.

So far, I have tried to tackle this issue with services like IMDb and Trakt.tv that send notifications about new movies or series featuring my favourite actors. However, these solutions are not optimal and require additional work since they are not directly integrated into Plex.

I believe many of us would benefit from this proposed feature. Therefore, I invite you all to contemplate it and, if you deem it worthy, cast your vote in its favour.

Features like this across all media would be excellent

  • notification when a new song/EP/LP is released by an artist in your music library
  • notification when a new TV show/movie is released by a favourite actor/director

This would be a nice additional feature for the Watchlist/Discovery hubs.

This feature could integrate with Live TV, allowing for the ability to automatically record movies and shows featuring your favourite actors and directors, thus adding them to your libraries.

You could also have sections in Discovery that highlight movies featuring your favourite actors/directors.

I love the watchlist feature in Plex where I can aggregate all my streaming services with the filter “available on your services”.

I was wondering if you could do a similar thing to a watchlist but instead of pre-selecting the movies, we can just subscribe to actors, directors, producers?
