Feature Request - Cast list for TV shows

I’d love to see Plex scrape cast lists for TV shows, including individual episodes. This is the most critical data for a lot of shows out there. Not scripted shows so much, but the type of talk/variety shows that are based almost entirely off each episode’s guests.

I’m still new-ish to Plex and not very savvy with the more tech-y aspects of it, but I know there is some kind of plugin that allows Plex to pull data from Kodi. Kodi happily scrapes TV cast data, including for episodes. Would that plugin allow me to import that info into Plex via Kodi, and if so, would it allow me to display it in the Smart TV app? I’ve tried to read up on this but I get lost in it all. Thanks for any advice!

For the 4 people who have looked at his thread, thanks! But is there anyone who can help me make this happen? Plex is basically worthless to me if I can’t see who is in which episodes of TV shows. Otherwise I have to put all the guest star data into tmdb or thetvdb (the latter of which is nearly unusable for accurate info on non-English shows) and then turn around and re-type all of same info into the episode descriptions in every language. And this has to be done for hundreds and hundreds of episodes. I’m not a programmer and I don’t know how else to ask for help, so if someone could at least point me in the direction of how to get Plex to scrape TV show casts I’d be appreciative.

Currently, Plex does not support cast information for TV shows. If this is something you would like Plex to include, the best thing would be to create a feature request thread. If enough people agree, it may get the devs attention to include the feature.

For talk.variety shows, typically the episode title will include the name of the guests. This is not a perfect solution, but works for most of these types of shows.

The plugin you are referring to is called the NFO importer. Unfortunately for you, this will not help since the cast data still would not be used. Sorry.

Thanks for the response! I thought I actually did create a feature request, but maybe I did it wrong.

Actually, your statement about variety shows maybe only applies in some places. For some places, like Korea, there are often 10-20 guests for each episode. They aren’t like American shows like The Tonight Show, so there is no way their names are in the title. None are more important than the others, so one or two can’t even be chosen for inclusion in the title. So this limitation literally makes it impossible to use Plex for an entire country’s variety shows, which are massively popular globally. People have tried to get around it by putting the guest list in the episode description, but since it’s NOT an episode description, database admins frown on it and it kind of defeats the organizational structure of a proper database. So I just don’t know what to do. I do hope this feature can be added, because it seems a lot more important than stuff like reviews for the end user.
