[Feature Request] Comics Section for CBR/CBZ/PDF

I would love to a new section for Comics/Ebooks with a scrapper agent linked to Comic Vine and support for CBZ/CBR/PDF file types. I have thousands comics and PDF ebooks and would love the ability to stream\access them from everywhere via Plex.

Clearly Comics/PDFs aren’t included in Plex’ range of media. When I was new to the apps (3 years ago), I made the same request as you. But I soon realised it wouldn’t fit in anyway.

There’s other apps that do this atm: http://manual.calibre-ebook.com/faq.html#id28

Umm... How exactly is it outside plex range of media? It already does pictures, comics are in the end, just pictures... Also worth mentioning is that XBMC which is really Plex's biggest competitor, as well as source for a lot of stuff, can already do this.

I just started a poll about this issue, highlighting how plex would/could generate revenue with this very feature. Im hoping if they see the advantage for them as well as for us they will take a look at development. Please vote on the poll below.

Is there any progress for Comics/PDFs? support?

I don’t know if I care about comics so much, but I’d love to see .epub support. I’m using Bookvisor for this now, and it’s nice- but it doesn’t work on Android. Surprisingly, most of the readers I try are really buggy or resource-intensive, and not very good at syncing between devices. I’d probably use the comic feature once in a while as well, but it’s not a big one for me.

Since Plex has already solved those issues with video, I would guess that text files would be a cakewalk- unless there’s something I’m missing. It would be cool to be able to free up my cloud account and make it easier to share books with my wife.

I think the main issue with all of these media types (Books, Comics, Audio Books) is that there are no comprehensive scrapers available to provide information to Plex for display.

So here is a cross platform comic book reader that someone can make a channel for: sourceforge.net/projects/comical/ problem solved?

That’s not necessarily true. Comicrack scrapes just fine from Comicvine and Calibre does a decent job with scraping for ebooks. I think it has more to do with the Plex team prioritizing Plex’s video capabilities and trying to spread to every platform known to man. From what I have read on similar posts, a lot of people just want the team to focus on their preferred platform or type of media. That makes me incredibly sad that few people seem to want these features because it would be great for Plex to be an all in one media server and as much as some want to deny it, ebooks and comics are types of media. Then again, they did surprise me with the improved music features (I don’t use it but it was nice).

I would love to have my comics on Plex. Just so I can read them on my iPad/Phone.

I have tried searching for a decent CBR organiser and there are some good ones out there (YAC, Comic book lover ect) but nothing that gives you an all round package i.e. create a library, see metadata, browse collection, comics read count and most importantly stream/download straight to device from anywhere.

I realise metadata could be problematic but that could be a feature added later for now just to get my library/collection on Plex and keep track of what I’ve read id be happy adding the metadata myself.

Collectorz do a great library for physical comics so something like this would be amazing.http://www.collectorz.com/comic/comic_organizer.php

Just clicked on the link and it takes you to the main page so nothing to vote for.

The other link is likely from the old forums. This should do the trick:
