My NAS is not fast enough to do transcoding and none of the media requires it anyway. Kodi, Totem, VLC, all can play my videos perfectly from Linux over a simple NFS mount. However, Plex on PS4 constantly buffers to the point that it’s unwatchable. I have my settings to Original with Direct Play and Direct Stream, no subtitles (though I don’t why it has to transcode subtitles) and yet it’s still unwatchable. I’m hoping to make the move to using Plex from the PS4 exclusively but until I can find a way to be sure transcoding isn’t happening then I probably won’t be able to get much from the software.
