(Feature Request) Manually Enter Public IP Address

So my previous comment is not correct. Once the IP changes the automatic IP check service changes the cached IP to my VPN IP. Again my remote access to the server is broken, The IP resolution service seems to override the Customer Access URL in the Network settings.

My understanding was that the connection details in the Custom Server Access URL are additional to any other remote access route.
I presume the IP you enter in the custom url field is the fixed static external IP - is it not?
That would need to route at all times to your server through the specified wan port in the custom url field.

So you are saying the even with this IP address remaining correct, Plex Media Server remote access fails when another IP changes.

Need to explain to me the flow and which IP is switch and what is changing
Did you look at the xml from plex.tv/pms/resources.xml?includeHttps=1 ?
It should show the additional custom url route - it would show up as `local=`` but that does not matter

What happened to all of these requests? When I click the links I get nothing. One of them was my req and it had quite a few votes.

The links are from the old forums - until all links get corrected one has to manually edit it by removing the /index.php bit

There is now a custom server access url feature which allows you to specify a host name and port or ip and port - so that could satisfy your needs

See Networks Server Settings

So if I change the Customer URL field to my public IP (http://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:32400) it works. When I have tried to use my dynamic DNS name in place of my IP it > @sa2000 said:

I have since gotten a server update to a newer version and now the Custom Server Access URL seems to stay and over ride the automatic IP check tool. My Plex server now remains available even when a VPN tunnel is up.

Thank you for your help!

Eric

Yes I too would like a what to set IP address as I have 5 IP’s on the server and plex works on all 5 and thats not good!

John

Hi there,

I must be missing something. I have tried to add my direct public IP (not the one through the VPN) and the Dynamic DNS that I have in front of it: https://www.evernote.com/l/AAUgXPPSImlH_JXfAF0N35nsM6g0Q2lwhVo But no matter what I do, if I have the VPN on, Plex Remote Connection just won’t work.

Any help is much appreciated.

Thx.

Alex

Same here, Custom server access URLs don’t override the automatically detected ip. Why not just allow people to specify their public ip? That would resolve this entire bug.

I agree as well, if you configure a Custom server access URL, it should replace all other detected IPs in the resources xml. This would certainly help me with the plex opera tv client which seems to struggle with multiple addresses.

Can this feature solve the issue of having Plex server running behind vpn connection? I tried both dynamic DNS and actual ip address. But Plex still try to connect remotely via the vpn connection ip it detected. I just want plex server to stop detecting my external ip. Can you shed some light? Thx.
