Feature Request - More options when searching for and sorting new movies

One of my wife’s biggest complaints is she can’t find easily the movies I just added to my library - especially after a hard drive failure where I reload my entire library and/or if I add a lot of movies at the same time.   When I do either of the above, it makes the recently added feature useless.

I love the feature that allows you to search movies by the decade.   My feature request is that when you select a decade, it gives you the option to sort movies by newest to oldest or sort alphabetically.

I am must admit, I haven’t used the product enough to know if there are a lot of options for recently added list.   It would be nice if you could sort by date range (added today, within the last week, within the last month, within the last 3 months) and also sort alphabetically or what was added last.

Finally, I am not sure if this feature exists but I like how when I add a movie to my iTunes, iTunes instantly shows the movies in the recently added.   - It appears that it takes awhile for the plex to recognize new movies.  I set the options to automatically detect changes and also did an manual update to the library.

If there isn’t one, I wish it would update the library by the newest movies first.   I suspect it was searching the whole directly and adding thing alphabetically.  When you have a huge 5000 movie library,  rescanning the library takes awhile.  It would be nice if those few movies i just added would show up instantly in my recently added section.

I've just tried this on PlexWeb, and Android and I can select the sort option for Year, and then I can also re-organise all those by Recently Added, Name, On Deck, Recently Released, Synced. Is this what you meant? as it gives you the same outcome. You can sort by decade then sort by recently added or what ever else you want.

Date ranges can only be done by Year at the moment I believe. You can select more than one year giving you a range of years, but there is no way to go all the way down to months, or last few days. This would break if you had to readd your library after a drive failure, but that's only if you rescan everything. If you backup and replace the backups you shouldn't have this problem. Someone else will have to clarify that though as I've never restored a backup.

The movies show up for my instantly in Recently Added as well? I don't get what you mean by this. Even when adding say 4000 movie files at the same time. Plex scans them, and once it's done that in what ever order it does it in it's in recently added. It does update the movies by newest ones first? My Library is 1000+ at the min for Live Action Films as well as my other 14 sections and it takes about 20 seconds max to do them all when I haven't added anything. If I've added something it's takes a little longer for the scan to complete but it's still really fast. Then as soon as that's done everything it's added is sat there in recently added.

I don't know if this will help your Wife, but it helped me... I could never choose a movie and was inundated with loads to choose from. (Too much choice haha) but I discovered the smart playlist feature to help with this, especially for a library used by a few people. I set up a custom smart playlist on the Web, to all unwatched movies. Then I add another modifier like, Sci-Fi or Adventure, or even artist or year if you want. Then all I'm paying attention to really is those playlists, I just select one and shuffle but it should wittle the selection down for your wife if she wants to pick one. She's also certain it will be of a genre she enjoyed. The playlist is updated when a new unwatched album comes in. Sadly, I don't think you can organise playlists by name, or recently added.
