Feature Request: Music Transcoding in PMP/Web

I searched a bit and didn’t see anyone asking for this, so maybe my use case is more of a snowflake than I feel like it should be.

I have a collection of CD quality, FLAC encoded (~1000 kbps) music that I manage through Plex. I often find myself trying to listen to it on my laptop with PMP (and sometimes the WebUI) over ■■■■■■ coffee shop WiFi and end up with lots of gaps in playback as tracks buffer in. It’d be great if the transcoded playback options from the other clients were ported over to PMP/Web so I could avoid falling back to the mobile app when I find myself in a coffee shop with poor WiFi.

On a related note, it feels like the buffering behavior of Web/PMP aren’t well tuned for this use case. It’d be great if there was an option to increase the buffer size in these clients.

You probably won’t to post it in the Feature Suggestions are instead so it can be voted on: https://forums.plex.tv/c/general/feature-suggestions

Try if you are compatible with the radically different UI philosophy of plexamp.com
Plexamp has a much more “greedy” buffering behaviour.

Thanks guys. I threw a post on the suggestions forum.

I’ve been using Plexamp on and off for awhile now, though if I recall correctly the last time I fired up Plexamp I was hitting the same issues when on poor wifi (since it too does not support transcoding). It’s possible that the buffering behavior has been improved since I last used it.
