Feature Request: Remove Items From Library

Issue:  I have a few split items in my library.  I have, for example, Movie A with two sample scenes showing up as three 'play' items in my Movies Library.  So if I'm scrolling through a PlexApp, I see three of the same posters (none indicating which is what).  This is so frustrating.  I would like be able to either merge those back into the main movie or remove them from the Library but not from the hard drive.

Request: Remove entries / items from any library with the admin user only or any user with admin rights.

Undesired Solution: Moving or deleting the file from the "watched" library folder (the hard drive).  I have other applications that rely on these files being there.  No, making a copy of the file is undesirable as well.  This will only bulk my drive plus its redundant.

Final Notes:  I know you guys have a lot on your plate and this is probably not (although I don't see why) a top priority issue for most people.  I apologize if this sounds dogmatic or even threatening but I need to know if this is something that will or will not be added.  How does this work?  If there's enough votes it gets implemented or ??? Ok, I'm going to have a hemorrhage if I sit here and continue writing about my feelings.  Ill just try to cordially exit now... Thank you.  Great product, just please.... the option to remove items without deleting or moving the file from the hard drive.

I hope that all made sense.

Cordially,

Henry /FallenBat

Edit:  Wow...I can't believe I demanded an answer. LOL!  Ok but nontheless, would be a cool and needed feature.  Please vote on it after we get security and server tool features implemented.

You know you can merge movies together, right?  When you are in the library view on the Web App, down the left side is a series of icons.  One of those icons is a box with a check mark in it.  Hit this and then select the 2 or 3 movies you want to merge together .  Once they are selected a new icon shows up that is two arrows pointing towards each other.

Selecting that icon merges the movies together.  The only issue with this is you can't select the specific files for the movies being played.  The PMS does that selection.  Also, playing one all the way through marks the whole merged set as watched.  This is used more for having multiple resolutions/bit rates of the same movie, to reduce/eliminate transcoding, but wouldn't work well for alternate endings or movies with and without Director's Cuts, deleted scenes, etc.

Ok,. cool.  I had heard of that feature but did not find it.  Thanks for this but I'm going to keep this thread unanswered as it only partly address my issue.  Thank you so, good looking out.  Good to know too!

Sample scenes can and should be setup as extras.  Read [this](https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200220677-Local-Media-Assets-Movies).  Especially the part near the bottom on Local Extras.

Right now there is no way to remove an item from a library but not from your drive.  So your request for this still is applicable.

Your last part on getting an answer if this will or will not be implemented.   Plex does not provide confirmations for new features until they are actually implemented, even if it is just to say we are working on it.  They also do not typically come out and say no we will not do this, with a few exceptions.

I personally think this is a good idea.  I think it should be possible to remove an item from your library without having to delete it.  A simple approach would be to have an option like "remove item" that would delete the database entry and automatically create (or add to an existing) .plexignore file with that item listed.

Yes, thank you for this.  In retrospect, this is not as big of an issue as I made it out to be.  I was just ticked off that the feature wasn't there... in other words, emotional.  Regardless I will leave this unanswered to allow for votes.  I agree, it would be a great feature to have.  And I was just being dogmatic (silly me) when demanding an answer (wow, that was me?).

Early 2021 clean-up: underlying issue is implemented (local extras, ignoring media); the specific request is possible (remove files from Plex’ scope w/ .plexignore) – no actual option to remove/hide/… .items from Plex without deleting them from the file system beyond that
