Fetch metadata - use own code or use the plex agents

Hi,

 

is it possible to fetch metadata for items by using the plex agents? Or do I have to use the imdb (or other) api by myself to fetch additional metadata?

I don't know if it's possible to use the plex agents from within the framework (I highly suspect that it's not possible).
