Flickering when watching some movies on TV. (no transcode)

Hi! I hate to be here once again asking for help. But i can’t play some movies on my TV for some reason. I’m no expert why, but it’s not transcoding which usually is the problem for me. No it is flickering and voices are behind a few seconds. The file is not broken or anything because i have watched the exakt same file on my pc. Hope these logs helps. Really wish someone can give me an awnser on this. Thank youserver logs.txt|attachment (2.0 MB) sdfsfd

Bump –

It’s most likely the problem-ridden VC-1 video codec.
‘Direct Play’ tells you that Plex is sending the video unchanged from the file to the player. So it has to be something in the TV device.

If you transcode the file with Handbrake to use the H.264 codec and use a ‘high quality’ preset, you will probably see a much better compatibility with no (or at least not noticeable) quality reduction.

Noteworthy info:
VC-1 (Video Catastrophe 1st Place) is mostly a single threaded operation, so an encode to h264 to fix it will take a LONG time - or at least a LOT longer than if you’d be using ALL of your cores, not just one.

Yes, it’s painful. Better to endure the pain once, than every time you try to play it.

Note 2: I have an AMD-FX 8350 (8 cores). It’s single thread rating is… meh, but it struggles along adequately (considering). The last processor I had broke down in tears on VC-1. Hope you don’t have one of those.

Note 3: If you have a strong server machine, and can trigger a transcode, perhaps at a reduced quality (reduced enough to test it), and can notice no jumpiness/flickering or other maladies, you’ll at least know what must be done.

I tried to convert to to 1080 HD 20 Mbps instead of original 25 Mbps and then it worked. But my server is not powerful to even transcode one file. That’s why I try to direct play. I’m a bit of a noob when it comes to these things. Is it my TV that’s the problem or can I tweak something that could make my TV be able to play the file without using handbrake on every movie that can’t be played.

If you have connverted it on your PC, then simply swap out the file on the NAS with the transcoded version. Afterwards re-Analyze and be done.

Thankfully, VC-1 is relatively rare, so you don’t need to transcode all your BR rips.
