Folder "List" View on Android app to follow selection on subfolders recursively (Changes to Grid)

When browsing a library folder from the Android app, the selected “List” view option does NOT follow recursively on Subfolders and changes to Grid view. SOLUTION: Update the Android app to Maintain the chosen view option UI throughout the folder substructure. When a user choses “List”, maintain List; When user choses “Grid”, maintain Grid.

WHY LIST VIEW?

  1. Fits more of the file name on the screen. Grid view truncates the names (incomplete names - shortens long filenames).
  2. Fits more files on the screen. In List view you can fit 12 filenames before you start scrolling. Grid view takes a lot of real estate on the screen and can only show up to 6 filenames, and those with a truncated names!

iPhone vs. Android
The iPhone app is correctly programmed. On the iPhone app, the List-view option correctly follows on the subfolders. The Android app needs to be corrected, because it reverts to Grid-view. In addition, on the iPhone app (on the top), it shows the full Server name and Library name, whereby on Android, it just shows “Library”. Why not show the full server and library name like on the iPhone app?

I included screenshots to help the developers understand the request, and hopefully place it in queue to be addressed on a future Android app update.

There’s already an existing suggestion discussing the handling of folder mode in the Android clients. Please comment/vote in that thread in order to help us avoid distracting or cannibalizing votes. Unless I’m missing some unique aspect of your suggestion I’ll close this thread as a duplicate.

The other post looses attention because it’s very, very long and does not explain the issue clearly… The developers and readers don’t have the time to go though that, and this is obvious since it was it was uploaded 4 years ago with no effective results. This post is direct, straight to the point, and most importantly includes photographs to make the point clear. I would suggest to keep this because it’s brief and because a quick look the photo helps everyone understand the issue.

That’s why I proposed you post your perspective in that post. Don’t worry about others not being able to keep up just because there’s no (immediate) reaction or implementation.

The other post doesn’t have all the related keywords to be found on searches, and lost traction because of its length, which seems to be more of a brainstorm or draft that is unclear of describing the issue in my opinion. Obviously it’s been 4 years since it was posted, with no response from the Plex team, and just a few unhelpful replies that refer users to other apps outside of Plex that do not work anyway! My intention as a Lifetime Pass holder is to improve the Plex app and not to redirect users elsewhere. In fact, looking at how the iPhone app is correctly implementing the “List” view option, one may say that this is a bug on the Android app rather than a feature request, and if so, it should be brought to attention to the correct team that can send this request to the programmers as a bug-fix. I edited the original image because “a picture is worth a thousand words”. Without ever reading the text, that picture explains it all!
