FOLDER VIEW! Why is this so #%#% hard?

Bought a new router, new phone, tablet and Chromecast to be able to cast/stream.
From Youtube, Netflix, HBO and my vast PC library of files.

Regarding the last, cast from PC > Wireless > TV controlled by Android device.

  • I’ve tried FX Folder/File management software and VLC on Android device.
  1. Casting/Streaming constantly interrupted. !DEALBREAKER!
  2. Subtitles in Subtitle subfolders show by default.
  3. Files are easy to find.
  4. Good Folder/File browsing system.
  5. Ok UI.
  • I’ve tried VideoStream after purchasing it.
  1. Excellent Casting/Streaming.
  2. Subtitles in Subtitle subfolders show by default.
  3. Fracks up the “Library” indexing. Movies are missing.
  4. NO PROPER FOLDER/FILE VIEW. !DEALBREAKER!
  5. Weird UI, hard to browse large number of files. !DEALBREAKER!
  • I tried EMBY. Not yet purchased.

Why is this so HARD to do? I’m not going to rename 10’000 files to accomodate software indexing and some flashy browsing that I don’t really need. I’m not going to move 10’000 files or mess with folders, renaming files etc. All I need is a solid, true and PURE Folder/File browsing feature, with true Filenames listed, within a proper server based casting software. I already have 10’000’s of files, each and everyone in PERFECT order and with identical naming structure, listed in the order they should be viewed. All subtitles files are in English, in SRT format, and inside “Subtitle” subfolder inside each media folder.

Every software that I’ve tried, has at least one dealbreaker.
Or is overly complicated. Wife and kids needs to manage this too.
Was I naive or what, I just assumed this would not even be an issue.

What I need from PLEX:

  • PROPER/TRUE Folder/File browsing. NO METASTUFF.
    What I’d like from PLEX:
  • Basic Subtitle support from SRT subtitle files inside Subtitle subfolders.

Is this in the development pipe soon?

Or should I unplug my Chromecast, as I can’t cast/stream properly to it anyway, and wait for the technology to “catch up”?

And continue to use my wired solution, PC > HDMI > TV using VLC or MPC-BE.
