For all that is holy, please reconsider plugin support

This is unquestionably true. It’s kind of sad/ironic, though, that the solution to Plex’s baffling and crappy decision is to move back to the software that Plex originally forked for ease of use. Two steps forward, one step back, I guess…

Yep, ain’t that the truth!

It will however use your remote plex server/Emby with those addons. I’m awaiting Jellyfin to take off more before I replace Plex as a backend. Kodi is working great as a Plex frontend though with PlexKodiConnect plugin.

I don’t see Jellyfin going far at all. It’s way behind in features/fixes and has none of the goodness of the latest beta cycle that really make Emby stand out. It won’t have gracenote EPG data as well. Sourcing EPG data can easily cost you $25 a year by itself.

I wasn’t happy with Emby’s decision to close the source but offered a compromise which Luke took me up on. It’s now a hybrid. Emby is making some of their proprietary stuff in DLL only versions while the heart of the system is still provided in source.

Besides the software development there are costs for other things like Gracenote data which isn’t cheap. Being able to circumvent a “lifetime” license in Emby via code change was the catelist for closing the source as they can’t provide these services while having people rip them off or even using their services in other software.

Right now the Emby team is delivering a lot of product for the cost. Reminds me of the older Plex. They are quick to fix bugs and whatnot. Hard to fault them at all.

Now if that were to change, then I could see JellyFin take off. I also have copies of all of their source code branches stashed away for good keeping just in case. Clients as well as the server. But why reinvent the wheel when in currently rotates/turns just fine?

I support the devs in spirit and $ and want them to be successful. That’s good for everyone, even the competition. Nothing worse then only having one piece of software that “owns” the market.

Subzero saved my life!

Please, keep it!

Or, at least, give us a way to download subtitles from Legendas.TV. For Brazilian customers, this is THE site to get subtitles from. Opensubtitles is a joke.

Well I guess I am switching back to Kodi. No plug in support is a deal breaker for me and I am very disappointed with plex’s decision. I use Plex plugins on a daily basis and it’s more reliable then Kodi plugins, but now my server will just collect dust because of the no plugin support.

Agree with this, I’m still using plex but have Emby installed and subscribed to Emby Premiere. It’s still too rough for me to use on the daily but when plugins eventually do go away that will likely be my catalyst to move. Trakt support is crucial for me.

Not sure what you mean by “rough” as it runs much smoother all around for many people.

I mean both the UX and I’ve hit a few bugs when using it (clicking things and nothing happeneing, many images don’t appear for some of my libraries when the matching seems to have worked.).

+1. I bought a lifetime plex pass for the plugins. If they are removed, I want my money back.

Not here to chime in about how I’ll cancel Plex Pass - I was about to finally jump on it a while back at the old price despite not seeing a massive point out of appreciation, but development developments showed me Plex wasn’t really heading where I, or most of its users wanted it. Plus, not having track names available in the interface angers me to a unhealthy degree.

Anyway, I do use Plug-Ins on a regular basis (Google Play Music and YouTube mainly, SubZero and FindMissing somewhat). Its not the end of the world if they fully discontinue the features, it’ll give me a reason to switch from RasPlex to plain LibreElec (Kodi) with the Plex Plugin that we recently got. its what I should do anyway, but I like RasPlex for a number of reasons.

Plex said their part. bye bye plug-ins.

for my region the plug-ins are useless.

ditto, it’s all i use it for plugins esp locast and free sites.

It’s sad. I’ve had to switch back to kodi for a lot of the functionality I’ve used plex for for years. An ironic switcharoo. It’s a shame the plex devs don’t seem to care about what their most dedicated users want.

I am closing this because it just won’t happen.
