This is really the fault of the people using Plex, but it would be nice if Plex could either force clients to use a specific (type) or correct (type) of audio stream. For instance, every file I have has 3 audio streams…
256k AAC Eng Audio
640k AC3 Eng Audio
1536k DTS Eng Audio
…on top of this, on my server, I make sure both at the file level and at the PMS level, the 256k AAC file is the default, but despite this, every client connecting via Apple, Roku, Fire TV, Xbox One and PS4 from friends or family seem to SOMEHOW always select AC3 or DTS, and it ends up being transcoded from AC3 to AAC, despite my having that stream available.
If the client initiates a transcode from whatever to whatever, can Plex not check first for that stream to see if it’s already available before transcoding? That would be a MOST welcome feature or addition. Alternatively, if you could just give me the blanket power to limit ALL remotely connected clients that are not my profile to have to use AAC, that would be wonderful.
