Hello. Yesterday I start use a PlexMediaServer with my Odroid-XU4 device. All just fine, but one thing which I need - is to disable transcode at all, I want that PlexMediaServer give an original stream instead of transcoded one. All my devices supports a lot of media formats and streams, I dont need a transcoding at all. But I can not find an option howto disable transcoding at all. As example: I try to use a IPTV bundle for some IPTV sources, and I get a full CPU usage whine try to watch some channels… But if I manually switch to Direct stream in the player options on the device I got what I need, but it hard for my wife to use those player options for each channel and films… It will be great, if I can somewhere set this option (direct stream) as “default”.
The Plex server transcodes media when the Plex client is not capable of playing the original stream (Direct Play or Direct Stream in Plex terms).
It is not possible to disable transcoding in Plex.
Were it possible, any media now transcoding would simply not play at all.
There are many threads on this topic, with many people expressing strong opinions about how Plex handles transcoding. Search the forum for “disable transcoding” or similar terms to find additional information.
