Forced downmixing support per device level

I have many devices in my home which the family uses to play tv/movies on and half of the TVs are using chromecast ultra or roku stick with built in TV audio.

It’s driving us nuts when we can’t downmix 5.1 or atmos, dts etc to stereo… audio sometimes has to be cranked to 100 on the tv and it’ll still be quiet for some movies/shows.

I’d like to suggest a feature where in a persons plex account, they can go under authorized devices and then on each device select an audio default setting where it will force downmixing for that specific device only by default.

I’ve read of some workaround hacks such as modifying the chromecast plex file but it will then force settings for ALL chromecast devices, and some of my TVs with chromecast have soundbars which support dts/5.1 so the sound is OK on them.

Is something like this doable?..

There’s an existing feature suggestion discussing the option to set down mix preferences for devices and users. I suggest you comment/vote in that thread in order to avoid distracting/dispersing votes.

I’ll therefore close this thread as a duplicate.

i think the difference between these threads though is that I’m talking about downmixing. They seem to be talking more about the ability to select an audio track. My files usually don’t have separate audio tracks and only include 5.1 for example. Thus downmixing to stereo is a transcoding feature request.

You’re right with regards to the OP of this thread. I had missed that section and only focused on the part about setting the right target audio. Using those settings to
downmix audio to an adequate target (if no matching track is available) is discussed in the thread though.
