I’m almost in heaven with my 4K HDR working on my XBOX ONE X. Passing Dolby Atmos and DTS:X to my soundbar through HDMI. However, some titles gives me the following problems:
They start fine in Direct Play and sound is working. However, after 20-30 seconds Plex tries to change to transcoding.
I’m starting to think it is a bandwith issue on the XBOX but I’m not sure.
Any ideas to why this happens to some titles? Any XBOX SERIES X users that have the same issue or does the more powerful player help?
That should only happen if there is a problem playing the file. The app will fall back to having PMS transcode when this happens. Would need to see xbox logs and server logs to check what is going on.
There is a section about “Xbox One X Forced Transcoding” - I tried to remove all audio tracks so only the Dolby TrueHD Atmos track was left. Same problem
Okay, more testing. Perhaps this gives an idea of the problem. I tried to remove the audio entirely only playing the 4K HEVEC HDR in direct play. No problems, it just kept playing. So it is an audio issue. I think.
Tried to play some other movies and found that most with high bit-rate audio would fail eventually.
Does this make sense for any of you? And why is this an issue?
I’m not positive it’s an audio issue, but the app is having issues playing the file. It seems to work for a while then something goes bad and it refuses to try playing anymore and instead tells PMS to switch to transcoding. This is the expected behavior when a file can’t be played.
Why the video won’t play is a mystery. The video player in the XBox is like black box. We tell it to play and if it doesn’t, there is no information on why. if you think it’s high bitrate audio, that could be correct. Unfortunately, there isn’t much we can do when the player fails like this when direct playing.
So close to a perfect setup. I will try to borrow a “Series X” to see if it is related to the “ONE X” or simply an Plex on XBOX issue. Thanks for the help.
