Right now I’m using one of the VR Players like “AAA VR Cinema” together with my Android Plex App.
Just tell Plex to use an external Player (Settings → Advanved → Player).
The only disadvantage is that Videos are streamed directly. So no Audio with DTS Tracks. A workaround would be the Plex “Optimize” Feature to decode the videos beforehand.
But I would still prefer a nativ VR Support of the Plex Player. Shouldn’t be that hard if even Pornhub is doing it now
The Cardboard SDK offers very simple ability to enable Cardboard mode.
PornHub’s integration is very good, just a simple button that makes the video available in a cardboard. I don’t like how the integration had a floating screen causing you to look in a specific direction. Why not just duplicate the video so I can look anywhere and the video stays in front of me. Having a floating screen uses excess battery to track where the screen needs to be.
Im sorry but this needs to be implemented ASAP, if Plex wont do it I will have to look at replacing it with another media manager that will. Cardboard is not going away but users will if plex doesn’t adapt.
Yea I can’t believe that even after Netflix released a VR version for Samsung VR and many more providers are moving and embracing VR that Plex wouldn’t see this as a easy way to move into the VR space. Maybe I will take a look at the emby forums for support.
Using the Google Daydream announcement to resurrect this request. I’d love this for airplane use, just take the video stream and split it into two so I can watch downloaded movies while blocking out the hellscape I’m currently sitting in.

I came here to post the same message. The airplane use case affects me. Pre-ordered my Pixel XL with free Daydream View.
It seems that most people are missing the most important reasons for implementing VR, and that is 3D! That is basically the only reason I want VR support in plex.
3D actually works fine in Plex, if you have SBS content you get 3D using Cardboard with no problems. The problem is non-SBS content (or converting SBS content to mono content) on the fly.

SBS content does not work great at all in Cardboard, I’ve tried this, maybe if you have a small phone. And a official support for 3D in plex could open up for the ability to switch between 3D and 2D(choose left or right image)
I hate to see this topic inactive. I want to be able to use Cardboard on my iPhone to watch my Plex library.
I see many people suggesting going to the Daydream discussion but it’s not the same thing. I can’t use Daydream on my iPhone and I don’t want to spend all that bucks for something that Cardboard should suffice.
