I know this has been asked for before, but as time goes on GPU hardware acceleration is likely to become increasingly popular. I installed a GPU for the first time yesterday and I was a little miffed to not have a utilisation graph for the graphics card.
Is there any possibility the dev team could revisit the prospect of getting this added to Plex? It would be extremely useful and appreciated.
So I’m all for this but I understand why the devs may balk at it. I’m going to ask some questions, solely to play devil’s advocate, in the hopes of starting a useful discussion.
How to you define utilization? Video memory utilization? Sessions?
Nvidia has a pretty decent toolkit for this but what about Intel? (igpu utilization, last I checked, can be a PITA)
It’s sadly more nuanced than CPU, memory, bandwidth.
That being said, your point is extremely valid. A way to measure CPU utilization is of limited value when transcoding is being done on a GPU. In fact, I had to install a distinct toolkit to measure this. If Plex could do it under the dashboard, I’d be all in.
*Edit. I’m re-allocating a vote to this, as it is a great suggestion.
Thank you. I envision utilisation similar to the current “Processor” graph. Just a simple utilisation % similar to what one sees in Windows Task Manager, or perhaps nvidiainspector.
Perhaps with an intuitive use of colour, you could add the GPU % graph to the existing Processor graph that shows the CPU usage. That way you’re not bloating out the dashboard.
I’ve always liked the graphs by going onto a browser, but the slickness and intuitiveness of Plex Dash has really, really impressed me. That initial was a little deflated yesterday however, when I installed my GPU and saw nothing to indicate what it was doing within the Plex or Plex Dash dashboards.
As we’ve both said, many servers are now set up for GPU transcoding so it would be great to see the Dashboard / Plex Dash given a quick refresh to reflect that popularity.
