Group Multiple Plex Servers

like this feature aswell…Could do it alot easier for my users when finding content
Adding storage capacity & spread out the processing power between server and still see all content in one view

I think this feature would be excellent - the ability to ‘scale’ your own plex environment by adding nodes to it to share transcode load, etc. gets my vote for sure.

This would be fantastic!

Please? ;p

+1 been waiting for this…

Would love this! My community consists of dozens of Plex servers, and being able to aggregate our collections in this way would be AMAZING.

DOUBLEPLUSGOOD!

Already liked this request, hopefully plex team will add this asap as it will solve a lot of problems/tweaks i need to arrange atm.

I like this one. I would be nice if it could decide which server copy would be best to use based off of their network conditions like upload speeds. Servers on the same LAN would obviously win every time but would vary on the WAN. Other categories for selecting the server would be video quality. If I can get 1080p from a friend’s server I would probably pick that over my 360p copy. If the difference is not easily identifiable the viewer could always just be asked which source they would like to stream it from.

+1 I agree

+100000 This just needs to happen. Love plex its solved so many issues but aggregation is key to the best experience with multiple servers.

Aggregation would be perfect for Plex users with access to multiple servers. As my friends catch on, my access grows. But having to click on each server and do individual searches is cumbersome.

Please add this feature!

+1, but primarily for the reasons in sa2000 's comment. Right now I have PlexDVR running on a second server. All of my storage is on a NAS so I just mount the media the “record” PMS dumps everything to onto my “production” PMS so it shows up in my regular library - but it leaves me with an orphaned PMS on my network doing nothing but recording. Having multiple machines cooperating to spread the load of recording, optimizing, and playing would be great and would make it so easy to add compute capacity if your needs grow (got too many kids running around this house…)

This feature would be great when combined with the new Plex Cloud.

+1 for this feature

+1 This is one feature that I really really want from plex. Especially now that my Plex box is maxed out in terms of drive space.

This would be great. I probably have the largest library and server setup rivaling any of the commercial outfits of anyone on here so this is definitely a feature I would like to see happen. Can we simply start by making the Windows version even run as a service so I can at least make it auto restart when it crashes which is pretty often here lately? Or even simply sharing meta data and database? They still haven’t even done those and they were requested several years ago, so I don’t hold much hope of them making multiple Plex servers work together or remote transcoding anytime soon, at least. The base problem is that their target market isn’t high-end large library and sharing users, it’s here to compete with Kodi/XBMC crowd for the most part. I love Plex when it works, don’t get me wrong. I think I am just starting to push the limits of what a single Plex instance can handle.

They really should just open source the server part of it at least. Then let the community create all these features instead of making feature requests. It isn’t what they make money on so I am not sure why they haven’t done this, especially since it came from open source.

We officially have this on iOS! http://imgur.com/a/wjxeS

Trying to figure now if it’s across all platforms…

Edit: I’ve tested Plex Web, iOS, and Plex on Shield: All have the option to search “All Servers”

Woohoo!

Wayhey, it’s nice that we have this feature back, but that’s not what this thread is about.

This thread is about having multiple servers appear effectively as a single server; or altering the hierarchy of how things are displayed, so that categories / movies / tv shows are higher level, and server choice is one of the last options.

IE a global catalog of content, followed by server selection (where necessary) when actually beginning playback.

I have two servers, they have different content, I don’t really care which one I’m playing from, it’s the content that I’m playing that interests me!

Or at least just have content across servers show up at the top level. I personally don’t care much if Plex is trying to integrate all “TV” into one list across servers, but I would like to have the option to see my local TV as well as TV from a shared server both show up as options in the top level menu without me having to dive into preferences to switch servers.
