Hard disk activity when Plex is turned on but not user access

I tried in earlier submissions to say that this server is used minimally. For non-Plex activities, maybe an hour a week on average accessing a couple files. And as far as Plex is concerned, I may listen to some music a couple times a week. So considering it’s lack of use, I would think that most of the drives would be cooling their heal waiting for something fun to do, particularly since I’ve turned off Plex scheduled events.

So yes, If I was using Plex a lot, recording TV shows, letting others access my video/flac data 24/7 inside and outside of my family, then eating up drives would be expected.

Right now my drives are quietly waiting to be triggered by an unknown process within Plex. Until then, all is quite on the western front (Cupertino Time).

I think in my case “keep all drives spinning” would be the opposite since I so rarely use the NAS (PR4100). The most activity that it regularly gets is it’s monthly backup process to another NAS. Once in a blue moon I’ll do some video editing which revs up all four drives (RAID10) for and hour or so, but that doesn’t even fall under the Plex umbrella.

Perhaps I should get educated on accessing and seeing if I can understand logging output…
