Has anyone found a solution for this? My Synology NAS doesn’t make noise, but plex is constantly reading from it. I tracked the network activity and for over 8 hrs plex consistently was pulling 50-100 mb/s of data. Granted I have all the scheduled tasks check to run but I only have them set to run between 1 am and 7 am. The hours of high network activity was during the day. I checked the process monitor on windows and it looked like plex was just accessing random media files with no rhyme or reason. Attached are my logs as @ChuckPa described abovePlex Media Server Logs_2019-03-12_10-54-01.zip (1.7 MB)
I guess I should also say this is brand new installation of PMS. This never happened on my old desktop, but I got a new one and reinstalled PMS about 5 days ago and it hasn’t stopped reading the NAS since. I do have a very large library so I’m thinking maybe it’s still just populating data. But the libraries and metadata are already scanned in and nothing seems to be missing. I just don’t know what it could possibly be doing, and I’m afraid the constant reading from my HDDs are going to shorten their life span
First:
HDDs, when left on and at stable operating temperature, have a 10+ year lifespan. When they spin up/down all the time, their lifespan is shorted to about 2-3 years.
SSDs, on the other hand, have a finite limit to the number of bytes which may be written. These can ‘burn out’ in as little as 6 months.
Second:
Large media libraries, especially video ones, will have all the media analyzed during scheduled maintenance in small amounts which does take several days. This profiling is done for automatic bit rate calculations and audio level.
All of this is normal.
Once all of the media is imported and analyzed, the nightly load will decrease.
First, At some point, you turned off DEBUG logging but in this case, it helps show some problems.

This isn’t a Synology issue because your server is running on Windows.

Thank you so much @ChuckPa - that really puts my mind at ease. Thanks for the quick response brother!
If you have set a periodic library update, make sure to leave several hours between those updates.
You should better not be updating the music library during maintenance.
Disable " Update all libraries during maintenance".
