Hardware HDR tonemapping still broken on 1.31.0.6654

@ChuckPa

I can confirm that I’m not calling out VaapiDriver=“i965” in Preferences.xml as well. Perhaps it’s a problem with the kernel version in Unraid? Previously you had suggested that you and an engineer had identified the problem - did they figure out a fix for this?

@matthe6038

We have the ApolloLake fix (which is actually a PMS fix) coming in its next release.

GeminiLake is showing mixed results.

I tried to get some folks to test with it but those results were inconclusive.

Ok thanks, I will report back when the next release comes out.

@ChuckPa any update on this? Still broken on GeminiLake unfortunately.

The only workaround so far is to roll back to 1.31.3.6999 and hold there until things settle.

You’ll have full playback functionality.

@ChuckPa Just checking in on this. Any hope for gemini lake processors?

Unfortunately, HW HDR tone mapping has been broken for more than a year on my gemini lake CPU (last working version was 1.29) running UNRAID (formerly kernel 5.19.17, now 6.1.49). HDR tone mapping works with Jellyfin with no problem (I don’t know if this is handled the same way as plex).

@ChuckPa In the past you and an engineer had identified this as the issue - is this currently being worked on? Thanks.

  1. The transcoder engineer is no longer with the company. We’re starting with a new team now and having to learn everything which was left behind (not well documented at all)

  2. Over the past couple days, following up on Unraid problems, I tested and found the following:

  • PMS 1.31.3.6868 (which I will give anyone who needs it)
  • Unraid 6.1 kernel ( I upgraded my Unraid NUC to their latest release)
  • Turn TONE MAPPING – OFF
  • You get Hable tone mapping instead of the saturated mobius tone mapping
    (this is a quirk in how the transcoder was put together)
  • On a number of processors, you can turn tone mapping on and Mobius will work.
    ( I don’t have a definitive list )

Observe:

I always appreciate your openness but I almost wish I didn’t know this, haha. Best of luck to the new team!

Jellyfin works with gemini lake (in my case J4105M) when configured to use quicksync and not use VAAPI which seems to be where the error is, I think kernel fault. With VAAPI it stopped working for me since 5.15. If plex did the same…

Sure was a great idea from management to fire all that useless staff huh.
