Harmony Touch remote and the RemotePi Board.

Copy the attached lircd.conf file to the .config folder and remove the .txt from the end of the filename (the only way I could upload the file was to add it to the end of the filename), you will need to reboot the RPi to apply the changes, this updated file has the codes for Fast Forward and Rewind.

This file also has my additional modifications to use the Next and Previous buttons when playing Playlists and also a button to bring up the ‘context’ function. If you don’t want those, then remove those lines and remove the # from the beginning of the line for the default functions.

In the MyHarmony software add a Device - Philips DVP-5140, this will set up a device remote that is compatible with the RemotePi Board.

Remap the buttons for the Philips DVP-5140, to do this select the hard rewind (<<) button and assign the Repeat function, then select the hard fast forward (>>) button and assign the Repeat A/B function.

If you are going to use my additional modifications, remap the hard Record button and assign the Subtitle function and remap the hard Ch up and Ch down buttons to the Previous and Next functions (these are my preferences and seem to pass the wife test!).

Clean up the touchscreen by removing the functions you have assigned to the hard buttons.

Hope this helps.

Edit - Due to changes in Rasplex 0.7.1 key mappings I have attached a new lircd.conf file in another post.

Awesome, thanks @NedtheNerd! Tonight I will do a fresh install of Rasplex as well as clear out my old Rasplex profile on my Harmony (I think I had it set up as Plex Player) and re-do it with the Philips.

@NedtheNerd, would the assumption be this would work with most IR receivers? I will test tonight but was wondering if you thought it would.

Ned, thanks for this. I’ll take a look.

The principal issue I have is power and turning the PI on via IR. Will the Phillips setting correct this?

TIA!

You need to train/retrain the RemotePi Board power button using the Philips power toggle button once you have configured the remote. Follow the instructions on MSL Digitals website to do this, then you will be able to power off/on the RPi via the power toggle button.

The post I mentioned is specific to the RemotePi Board, however, the principle should be the same - the Philips remote I mention is RC-6 compliant and I believe most USB IR dongles use the same protocol.

I’ll have to look at purchasing one of the FLIRC ones for testing.

Thanks @NedtheNerd for the instructions. Everything works like a charm now.

Hi, I am a little confused, the remotepi board seems to work out of the box with my harmony configured for media center remote (rasplex is replacing a 360 extender that died). However the remotepi registers each input on the remote as two inputs. Do I need to switch to Philips remote or can I fix the double presses?

–edit–

I did some digging and found on rasplex 7.0 (first rasplex I have ever tried) that there are two default lirc files (first time I have ever heard of lirc too  )

/etc/lirc/lircd.conf.xbox
/etc/lirc/lircd.conf.rpi

the .rpi file is configured to supress repeats for all remotes defined
the .xbox file has the supress repeats command commented out

I can’t edit either file because rasplex says it has a readonly filesystem? What should I do?

—edit— I tried a real xbox 360 media remote, it also gets double presses, I think the .xbox file has wrong settings, where do I bug this?

Suggest switching to the Philips remote, and follow the rest of the topic in my post to get FF/RW working.

Sure , but at the end of the day rasplex has a bug with the xbox remote control. If it fixed then rasplex / remotepi will work with zero configuration for most folks. Either way the bug needs to be fixed.

Not a bug (issue) with Rasplex that has been reported on GitHub, if you want it to be looked at I suggested you raise on issue. Look at the top of the forum for how to do this.

Due to changes in Rasplex 0.7.1 key mappings, here is an updated lircd.conf file referred to in the original post. Remember to strip off the .txt when copying the file to your RPi.

Regards

@NedtheNerd In response to what you to what you said on the PMP section, I booted up my RasPlex box and updated it to the latest, 1.0.3, and am having the same issue there. If I just push play with the video selected on the home screen it does not play. I have to hit Enter\OK to drill into the content and hit Enter\OK on the Play button in the GUI.

Is there something that I missed when copying the lircd.conf file to my device? Everything else is working fine with the remote. I can use the Play button to Play and Pause after the video has been started.

I think it’s because the play button is currently a ‘Play/Pause’ button, not a dedicated ‘Play’ button, will have a look at this when I can find my Harmony Touch!

As I thought, the ‘Play’ button serves as Play and Pause, however, do the following to get the functionality that you want:

Open an SSH session,

Open lircd.conf:

 nano /storage/.config/lircd.conf

Find the line that has:

           KEY_PAUSE 0xD3

and change that to:

           KEY_PLAY 0xD3

and press CTRL+x, then y, then enter to save the file.

Copy the attached file to /storage/.plexht/userdata/keymaps and rename it to keymap.xml.

Restart the RPi.

You can now select a movie/episode and press ‘Play’ to skip the Pre-Play screen and start playback immediately. When a video is playing, pressing ‘Play’ will pause the video, pressing ‘Play’ again will resume the video.

Sorry for the oversight, all people use the same thing differently!!!
