HDHomerun question

I’m considering getting a HDHomerun Extend to add to my Plex setup. It’s confusing whether or not I need to attach a drive to it for storage or will Plex grab the live OTA signal and record to my current drive where my movies and music are?

You can use Plex as the DVR. No need for external drive attached to Homerun or their DVR service fees.

Unless you need the HDHomeRun transcoding feature (weak server cpu or desire to watch live via phone or somesuch), I would recommend looking at the HDHomeRun CONNECT QUATRO. Same price or less (shop around) and has FOUR tuners vs. Extends two. I replaced my two Extends with Quatros.

Thank you for the quick reply, good to know no extra drive needed. I was thinking the Extend so the server wouldn’t have to transcode on the fly, sounds like you think a pretty average server won’t have issues?

Recent Intel servers -going back at least to the 4th generation core processors - have the capability to do hardware based transcoding.

Awesome! Thank you for all the information definitely gives me something to consider.

One more question if I could? I currently get 5.1 sound from my antenna plugged into my Roku TV. If I switch to having a HDHomerun box between the antenna and tvs will I still get that level of sound?
