Help sharing my media with friends

So i believe I can share my media with friends and family in other locations. I have had a look through the Support section but can't find any instructions there to help me.

 

So my dad has an iPad, I believe all he needs to do is download the App and log in with my username then he has access to all my files as I do with my iPad at home. Correct?

 

My mate wants to watch them on his PC. What does he need to do so he can view and play my media, but not be able to change anything? Does he need to download one of the programmes?

You can share your server with other users at https://plex.tv/servers and they won't be able to change anything if they are using their separate account.

Thanks for the quick response. So they need to join Plex, create there own username and password, then I can add them to my share list. They don't actually need to download anything then?

They need to download whatever app they are going to be using to access your libraries, unless they are just going to be using the web app in the browser.

That's what I thought, the iPad person needs the app, the PC user can just use the in browser app. Thanks for info, much appreciated.

Ok, but how do you get Plex to share ALL the libraries I have set up in my server? It only seems to let me select one library ("TV Shows") and not all 3 ("Movies" "Home Movies" and "TV Shows") I can't seem to find any help on this.

When on the sharing page you can select the box which says Edit then change the folders that are shared. Seems to work ok for me.

Well I'm not exactly sure what happened, but 12 hours after I rebooted my unRAID Plex server, and logged back into Plex.tv it now shows 3 libraries being shared. Trying to verify with my son if he can see them all now, but that's further than I've been able to get. I can only guess that the settings get synced with the Plex cloud and it just took some time for that to happen. But it does seem strange that I have to reboot the server after creating a library before it makes it accessible to anyone else.

Thanks mate, Plex is doing my head in atm, can’t get tents access working anymore, and yet it’s done this!
