Help with command line Plex Media Scanner

Server Version#: 4.65.1
Player Version#: 4.65.1

Hi all,

I have a fairly large music library with very complete id3v1/2 tags. My library contains about 4000 albums and the scan via the GUI takes a very long time to run.

I have been following along with some online posts and the instructions here:

Specifically, what I am after is a way to scan a specific directory or subdirectory to update changes I’ve made.

Here is an example command:

“C:\Program Files (x86)\Plex\Plex Media Server\Plex Media Scanner.exe” -r -s -x -c <library #> -d “drive:\directory\subdirectory

That runs, no errors, but I never get the results updated that I want.

Is there a different syntax or way to do this?

Additionally, I cannot get the verbose or progress flags to do anything regardless of what actions I use. Do I need to send it to a log file to see that?

Thanks for any help. If there is a way to just scan what I need to update/add it that would be great. I hate having to wait to see/play a new album I have just added.

Are trying to scan in an individual artist/album folder?

Sometimes yes.

I have things organized like this:

Library\Genre\Artist\Album

So often I’m adding an album to an existing artist and would scan:

Library\Genre\Artist

Other times I might add new artists so I’d scan at the Genre level.
