HEVC DirectPlay playback on mobile | Tdarr transcoding

To free up some disc space, I plan to transcode my 1080p h.264 movies into h.265 using Tdarr. I would love to directplay or directstream (no transcoding) movies on mobile devices (ios, android) too sometimes.

Anyone tried this? Is it good idea to have all movies in HEVC, if you want to watch movies on mobile sometimes?

Will I keep same quality by converting AVC 15mbps to HEVC 10mbps?

It is impossible to convert from one lossy format into another lossy format and not lose quality. If you will notice is or not is the question. Unless you have access to the source material I wouldn’t bother

15 Mbit/s is very large for h.264. Hence, you material should have super-duper quality. If you want to keep that quality, going to h.265 will not save you much. The band width saving is predominantly achieved at lower qualities. For use on a mobile device I would aim at 1.5 Mbit/s h.265.
