How can I "see" which media files Plex did not recognise?

Is there any way to create a list of the movies or tv series (episodes) Plex did not recognise?

I know ages ago there was something like webtools but is there any other way to “see” which files did not show up?

With thousands of files it is impossible for me to do this manually.

With kodi there is a “missing movies” plugin available.

Is there something similar possible with Plex?

Player Version#: 4.29.2

What exactly do you mean?
Are you looking for files that Plex mismatched or incorrectly matched as versions of existing items – or are you looking for files Plex actually ignored by the scanner (e.g. movies named like tv-shows, unsupported formats…)?

WebTools/Export tools are still around – though they’ll only show you what files have actually been added to Plex.

I am looking for a way to find out if files have been ignored and not been added to the library.

And I would like to have some kind of list of these files in order to look at these files to find out why they have not been detected.

Your best shot for that kind of information are most likely the server logs (Plex Media Server.log / Plex Media Scanner.log and their numbered versions).

I’m not sure if some 3rd party apps like Tautulli or PlexPy might track this information from your logs

I now installed Tautulli docker on my Unraid server.

When I look at the number of listed films in the library then there are around 700 films “missing” compared to the number of files in the movie directory.

Do we really have to dig out manually which file is not recognised?

You can probably cook this down by sorting your library by something other than By Title. This way all items inside collections will also show.
It’s also worth looking what items have been listed with duplicates – this could be movies that have been accidentally mismatched and are listed as different versions of other movies.
