How do extras work?

i have tried that setting as well

What do you mean? Your library is set to the personal movie scanner and personal media agent, which essentially makes it a home movie category. You cannot have local trailers with this setting. You should create a new library and choose one of the actual agents i mentioned. If these do not capture the local trailer, please provide the local media agent log after scanning this new library.

I have tried both

Please try again and provide a log. That will be the only way to find out why it is not working for you.

Witch log file would you like?

It's not something daft like PMS doesnt have correct access rights to the trailer/extra files? ie. moved over from a nas with perms etc? Just a random thought. I know I have permission issues if I ssh in & move files around on my nas, ie. I use root which buggers up my admin access on windows. (probably not this but may stop hair pulling out moment)...

just tried resetting folder and file permissions. Still not working :(

The local media log would be the one to look in. And the scanner log would have some info as well.

logs attached

just one question.

what platform are you guy (who use local media trailer etc..) using? windows, mac, linux, synology ????

can someone (who has extras local trailers working) please post their LocalMedia.bundle plugin folder. just zip folder and attach to post please

thanks

this is the windows subforum, so we are on windows

Your log indicates your localmedia.bundle is on version 2.6.1.  I have 2.6.2.  I just ran a test for that movie and it picked up a trailer using the same naming as yours and it worked.  Delete the bundle, restart PMS, wait a few minutes to let it rebuild, and try again.

I have done that many times. that is the version is gave me each time.

I have just downloaded manually the localmedia bundle from github. now it is 2.6.2

after messing around more with the file names again. It did pick up the trailer. then tried a second movie with the same file name. no go. Again after friggin around with that movie for about an hour it also started to work witht he trailer. I just think the local trailer script is a bit dodgy. or its because i have my plex server on one pc and all my media on another pc linked via a mapped drive letter.

I have had a very indepth look at the script that makes up the extra features plugin. i understand how it works (mostly). it just wont pick up the file, with the correct naming convention, most of the time. dont ask me y. it just is.

Believe me when I say I have tried everything.

I really appreciate you guys taking the time to help me out.

I am still happy to give remote access to my plex pc if you dont believe me. I would love a 2nd opinion

thanks again

I believe you that the trailers are not being added.  Your log indicated so.  The question is why.

If you were unable to update the bundle automatically there may be other bundles also out of date or just not working correctly.  I would suggest uninstalling PMS, download the current version manually from the website, and reinstall.  As long as you don't delete the registry, your setup will be preserved.  Wait 5 minutes to make sure all the bundles are updated.  Check the local media bundle to see what version it is.  If it managed to update itself to 2.6.2, that would be progress.

i have tried this all ready on a fresh pc. still same problem.

I have officially given up. I still think plex is still the best media manager/streamer and will continue to use it

Sorry to hear that. Was hoping we could figure out the problem. Oh well.

I'm just beginning to trouble shoot this.  I followed the directions and I don't see my extras showing up.  It could be that the extras are there and I don't know how to find them.   I"m using Roku

1)  How do extras show up on my PC using Plex?

2)  How do extras show up on my Roku?

What I'm asking is:   Assuming that I set things up correctly and everything works, how would I then watch a trailer?

Hi, can I please add my voice to galant56k?. I have followed all the instruction on the support site and done a clean install of both PMS and Plex Home Theater. I have even created a new folder for just a couple of movies with extras to speed up updating etc. My problem is that Plex sees most of the extras as separate movies wherever they are stored or however they are named. Also no matter what I do, I am unable to see a screen showing extras at attached to movies. However, I am moving from My Movies (MM) (and WMC) to Plex and am aware that MM stores its data in XML files in the same dir as the movie and this can screw the identification of a movie. But maybe that’s just a side issue? Kit: W7 media centre PC talking to WHS 2011 Server over local LAN.

Can you provide a screenshot of your folder with the extras?

I have given up on this too. After reading this entire thread I still don’t know what I should even expect if I get this working.

The steps required seem incredibly finicky.
