How do I tune to a specific cable live tv station.

I have a HDHomeRun tuner and a plexpass. The tuner works great and I can watch live tv and record shows. If I know a specific station I want to watch live I do not see any easy way to select this. This is especially difficult when I am watching a basketball game and the game goes longer than the scheduled time period. In this case PLEX stops showing the game and i have to figure out what the next scheduled program on that station is in order to resume watching the game.

Congratulations, you figured it out. That is exactly how they designed it, isn’t it neat?

This post details that a traditional “grid” style guide is in development. That should make watching Live TV much easier.

I’m currently using Plex Media Server version 1.11.0.4666 on Synology DSM version 6.1.4-15217 Update 5 .

I have access to different Plex clients on different platforms like FireTV (4K) and AppleTV (version 4). When using Live TV on such platforms I have found that the guide data is indeed ordered sequentially and is identifiable by call-sign / logo. So for example, when channel surfing , if I tune to SyFy I know that it is channel 630 (if HD but if SD then 112). From there if I want to navigate to CNN channel 650 all I would need do is press down on the FireTV d-pad (swipe down on AppleTV) to see the channel lineup and go right (up the channel list ascending order) until I see CNN. Channel numbers aren’t given but I know my channel lineup. If I wanted to go to BBC-America from there I would have to press down and then go left until I see BBCA which is on channel 550.

And so on etcetera.

So once again, if you know your channel lineup its possible but tedious without a proper guide.

Whenever you first invoke the channel guide it starts at the lowest channel. For me that is channel 1. So if I know I want to go to FX-HD channel 626 or IFC- HD channel 666 then I have some serious scrolling to do.

Major Fail for plex and i would assume this is a reason more people don’t use plex for live TV, i know its the main reason i don’t use it for live TV works great as a DVR though . I mean how hard is it to have direct channel access box / list. Grid guide isn’t needed for this this feature to be possible , i cant believe that wasn’t first on the list when they decided they were going to offer a live TV option. I guess one day we will get that option haha
