I want to upgrade the motherboard and cpu for my server.
I know in %appdata% the plex folders have MILLIONS of files (i have 300tb of linux isos from cartoons, movies, tv audio books, music and prank calls).
It it possible to just copy the plex stuff out of the %appdata%, program files (x84) and program files, then plop them on the new server with each drive perfectly matched and not have to rescan or manually remap the stuff that i had to do manually since 2019
i mean i want the metadata and posters can i dont have it in me to start new, rescan everything then rematch manually what plex NEVER FINDS in the tvbase, moviebase, etc, i have it all matched correctly. can i replace the server, dump the plex folders then install the server and have it not tell me hundreds are unmatched/missmatched? I cant go through 300 tb and fix stuff again, i did it like 3 times when the older servers magically rescanned all metadata and screwed my movies and cartoons
Move an Install to Another System
Copy the Plex Data Folder to the new system.
See support document for the details.
Ok, i am going to go read to up on that but if i have any questions can i reply here or should i start s new topic? Cause i mean i want so the metadata pics and stuff that i know are in my profile in appdata to transfer over without the downloading if the movie again even if it’s wrong or from s .mp4 release that won’t use a poster but a frame from the nice as the icon
You can reply here or start a new topic. Either is fine.
I just recently relocated my Windows server to new hardware.
If done correctly, neither you, nor the people you share your server with, will notice that something has changed.
Here I laid down the principal procedure. It’s already a few years old, but the procedure hasn’t changed a bit:
Thanks fellows, it looks simple enough (I was hoping it was just moving that one folder from %appdata%.
Im sure it will take a while with the amount of files in it but I either want to reinstall the old system and restore the database once my new rig is built next month or buy newer hardware (leaning to just reinstalling the old system to make it completely dedicated and save money).
But again, thank you for pointing me to what I needed, and the server will be installed on a new m.2 so I’ll still have the original m.2 I can plop back in in case things go squirrelly and try again.
if you move the appdata and the registry keys it should be fairly straight forward.
