How often is PMS updated in FreeBSD repositories?

I just finally got the updated pkg today (checking daily) and got this message.

===>   NOTICE:

The plexmediaserver-plexpass port currently does not have a maintainer. As a result, it is
more likely to have unresolved issues, not be up-to-date, or even be removed in
the future. To volunteer to maintain this port, please create an issue at:

https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla

More information about port maintainership is available at:

https://docs.freebsd.org/en/articles/contributing/#ports-contributing

Perhaps Plex should consider taking over maintaining the port to ensure it’s actually still usable on FreeBSD and systems using it’s ports/pkgs in future.

I just checked the FreeBSD ports page and there is no maintainer listed for plexmediaserver.

So if there is no maintainer, then how do I update Plexmediaserver from a tarball?

I have submitted the update to Bugzilla for FreeBSD to get both versions updated and am waiting on a reply from somebody… I am also thinking about taking over the maintainership of the ports as well…

You’d use the instructions on that earlier post it looks like.

Did you ever get a reply?

Yes, I did… Version 1.25.9.5721 was committed to the ports tree on April 7th for both the standard and plexpass ports. I submitted a bug report to have version 1.26.0.5715 updated for the plexpass port on April 14th and is still awaiting approval… I will be also submitting another one today to update the standard port today as well as being the maintainer…

For what it’s worth, I switched my Plex server to Ubuntu and am using the official Plex package repository now. I don’t get plexpass updates early anymore, but also will actually get updates ongoing, so… :person_shrugging:

@bjs59 are you still working to become the FreeBSD package maintainer?

@Volts

Yes, I am now the FreeBSD maintainer for both the regular and plex-pass ports of Plex. The regular port is up to date. I hope to submit the patch to update the plex-pass port today or tomorrow. Once submitted, a committer still has to actually make the changes to the ports tree. Once the patch is committed to the ports tree, then the FreeBSD package servers will start building a package for release. Sorry for the delay of the most recent plex-pass version, I’ve had construction going on in my residence and just have not had a chance to get to it until now.

You’re an idiot for taking that on.
Thanks for taking that on!

@Volts

Thanks for the off-hand compliment… I think.

It’s sincerely appreciated. I’m guessing you’ll receive “why hasn’t it been updated … instantly?” questions.

@Volts

I’m sure I will. What people will have to understand is I’m just the first step in the very strict structure of the FreeBSD system, including the ports tree.

Only if people know it’s him. The old maintainer was actually here on the forums as well. I just never mentioned who they were since I didn’t want them getting harassed. I only ever messaged him once requesting an update, and he’d been on vacation and unaware there was a new version so it was alright.

Thanks a lot. Your work is highly appreciated.
