Hi all, I have about 2 dozen assorted holiday specials (Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving, etc…) in a single sub folder in my TV Shows folder. Plex sees the sub folder, but it is trying to break up the holiday specials into seasons and some holiday special video files seem to be getting ignored. How can I tell Plex to just pass through the various episodes as I have them named, without trying to grab metadata for them. Maybe I’m thinking about this all wrong? has anyone organized various TV holiday specials into a single TV subfolder in a better way for Plex to present them? Thanks in advance for assistance!

I’m assuming you’re talking about personal recorded video sessions of your holidays.
With that being said, you don’t need a metadata.
- Create a new library, and choose the library type “Other Videos”
- Name your Library to whatever you like, something like “Holiday Specials.”
- Browse to the directory you have your files in it.
- and click create.
For me, i’d organize them into Seasons and Episodes.
for example, Season 1 would be for christmas, Season 2 for summer holiday etc..
and within each season, would be episodes for that specific season.
Or you can create the library as TV Shows, then edit the library —> Advanced tab, and use the agent “Personal Media Show”.
It would look like something along the lines like this:
Special Holidays
---- Season 1
S01E01 - Gifts opening
S01E02 - Family Gathering
---- Season 2
S02E01 - Paris travel
S02E02 - Yacht Sailing
You can be more creative with your own posters to those seasons.
Create a photo, write on it the name of the season.
For example, Get a christmas tree poster and write a name Christmas, use that poster on Season 1 (with Christmas written poster).
save the poster/image as Poster.jpg and put it in the same folder as your Special Holidays.
I did almost the same thing with my gameplay videos in Plex to share it with my friends.
Ashus, Thank you for the detailed response, but I’m actually referring to TV holiday specials, like Charlie Brown Thanksgiving, The Grinch who stole Christmas, or Garfield’s Halloween Adventure. My preference is to keep them in my TV library and keep them all together as if they were all episodes of a single TV show called “Holiday Specials” with no seasons. The individual “episodes” have self explanatory titles. If I have to have seasons, then I probably will break them up into their specific holiday (mostly Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas.) I greatly appreciate any help you or anyone else can offer!
Thanks

I’d just leave those episodes in their original show, however they are organised there.
(Either as a regular episode or as a special episode - depends on where they appear on TheTVDB.)
Then simply build a manual playlist with all ‘christmas’ episodes, ‘halloween’ episodes etc pp
Some of those episodes you posted are “Special” season of a specific TV Show (like How the Grinch stole christmas) and some are normal tv episodes (like Charlie Brown Thanksgiving). So its difficult to move them all into one tv show of their own, because that depends on the agent you’re using (default is TheTVDB agent plex uses for tv shows).
I’d go with what @OttoKerner suggested, leave them to their own original tv shows and use the playlist feature to group them up.
Either that, or use the personal media agent, and use the method I provided. With that said, you will have the freedom to do whatever you want, which also includes adding your own metadata.
I’m afraid these are the only two options. Unless someone comes up with another.
Gluck.
